A systemic framework to categorize Circular Economy interventions: An application to the construction and demolition sector

The Circular Economy (CE) concept has recently gained momentum as a perspective to tackle global challenges such resource scarcity and waste management. Multiple types of interventions have been proposed support the transition towards CE. This paper aims (i) categorize CE interventions; (ii) analyze what extent these intervention categories are considered when assessing in specific sector (Construction Demolition; C&D); (iii) suggest indicators for improvement assessment tools context C&D sector. Through literature review expert interviews, we developed systemic framework that categorizes into four groups: Research Realize, Implement, Support, Enable, each considering so-called 10R-strategies established field. To understand relevance sector, analyzed nine indicator sets (252 indicators) used circular interventions. results show category implementation R-strategies receives greatest attention. However, though marginally, some assessments also consider those significant were categorized Support. We argue future should incorporate interventions, encourage approach transition. Independently from analyzed, can actors involved transition, linking their contributions different R-strategies, with satisfactory balance complexity ease application.
